THE RAIL CORRIDOR
The Rail Corridor was formerly a railway line that was used for commuting and transporting goods between Singapore and the rest of the Malay Peninsula at the beginning of the 20th century. With the return of railway land to Singapore in 2011, the Rail Corridor forms a continuous open space through the heart of Singapore where communities can forge new memories together. LEARN ABOUT OUR HERITAGE ROADS
The Heritage Road Scheme, launched in 2001 by the National Parks Board, aims to conserve the scenic and significant tree-lined roads of Singapore. In 2006, five roads were gazetted as Heritage Roads – Arcadia Road, Mount Pleasant Road, Mandai Road, South Buona Vista Road and Lim Chu Kang Road. To preserve the unique tree-scapes, a green buffer of 10 metres on both sides of the Heritage Road is enforced and the removal of trees or plants is prohibited. The preservation of Heritage Roads adds an element of permanence to the landscape and ultimately contributes to Singapore's sense of identity, history and continuity.
