Exploring Semayang: Evolving Traditions of Ancestral Veneration
In this special display, six students from Temasek Junior College present their research on the Peranakan Chinese practice of semayang (ancestral veneration), developed during a month-long internship facilitated by NUS Baba House as part of TJC’s W.O.W. (Wonder, Observe, Weave!) Programme.
Through poster displays, the students explore the evolution, symbolism, and shifting perspectives of semayang—highlighting how this deeply rooted cultural ritual continues to adapt and find meaning in contemporary life.
This display is accessible to visitors who have booked a Heritage Tour ticket at Baba House. No separate ticket is required.
