Nanyang Tea Challenge 2025
The main objectives of this Challenge are to let more people know about the unique heritage Nanyang tea blend and to cultivate the habit of drinking tea. You don’t have to be a tea expert to be a Challenger. What you need is a brave heart to challenge yourself to a new height. The preliminary rounds will be conducted online and the Final Round will be conducted physically at Garden By The Bay What is Nanyang Tea?

Round 1: Tasting and Identifying the 5 Nanyang Tea (40 points)
Challengers will be given unnamed pack of the 5 Nanyang Tea* to taste and submit their answer online. *5 Nanyang Teas: Renowned Unknown Fragrance, Ping Pong Tie Guanyin, Wuyi Iron Arhat, Grade 1 Tie Guanyin and Sin Choon Daffodil

Round 2: Nanyang Tea Brewing (60 points)
Challengers will record a video of himself/herself doing the brewing process using the Heritage Nanyang Tea Combo Set. Scores for this round will be obtained from online polls. The top 8 scorers for round 1 plus round 2 will proceed to round 3 subjected to display of proficiency in their tea brewing process. The scores will not be carried forward to round 3.

Round 3: Nanyang Tea with Hawker Food (100 points)
The challenge will be livestreamed and viewers can poll online. The final placement will be based on combined scores from judges’ evaluation and online polling. Higher weightage will be given to judges’ evaluation. Challengers will blend a new Nanyang Tea using pre-determined Oolong tea and a maximum of 2 types of native spices. Challengers will present the blended tea using the Heritage Nanyang Tea Combo Set and pair it with a hawker food available at the Festival.

The judges will taste the blended tea, grade the tea blend as well as evaluate it’s suitability with the selected delicacy. Judging for Round 3 will be based on:
- The quality of the blended tea
- The complementary factor of the tea-food pairing
- The overall presentation

For Round 3, the main focus will be on creativity and innovation.
All Challengers will be awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze Awards depending on their highest attainment in this Challenge and win prizes worth up to S$800.

Pek Sin Choon has a history of close to 100 years in Singapore. The Company is one of the remaining few tea merchants in Singapore which blended their own tea leaves using the traditional method.
